Gaza border clash: Palestinian boy shot by Israeli soldiers dies

The 12-year-old Palestinian boy who was shot by Israeli soldiers last week has died of his injuries. The health ministry of the Gaza region said that Omar Hassan Abu al-Nile was hit last Saturday on the sidelines of a demonstration near the border fence.

Official Palestinian news agency Wafa reported that around 100 mourners attended the funeral.

Several factions are calling the demonstrations as protests particularly against Israel's almost 15-year-long blockade of the coastal enclave. The Israeli Army said that the Palestinian "rioters" were reportedly hurling explosives over the border fence separating the Gaza strip from Palestine and it responded with live fire.

Gazans had begun a protest movement demanding an end to the blockade in 2018. They demanded the right for Palestinians to return to lands they fled or were expelled from when the Jewish state of Israel was founded.

The unrest of August 21 left around 40 people wounded. A 32-year-old man died on Wednesday. An Israeli police officer was also shot and remains in critical condition. New protests erupted on Saturday evening and the Israeli army responded by firing teargas and stun grenades, reported AFP.

After the incident, Israel carried out airstrikes to target weapons manufacturing and storage sites belonging to Hamas. Israel attacked again on Monday and Tuesday in response to incendiary balloons that spared fires in Israel's southern Eshkol region.
