Moscow: Russian President Vladimir Putin showered praise on Indian PM Modi calling him a patriot of his country, according to a report by Reuters.

Putin was addressing the Moscow-based think tank 'Valdai Discussion Club' when he said that a lot has been done under Modi's leadership in India, and added that 'Make in India' matters both economically and ethically.

The translation of his speech also said that future belongs to India, and it can be proud of the fact that it's the largest democracy in the world.

"India has made tremendous progress in its development from being a British colony to a modern state. Almost 1.5 billion people & tangible development results give reasons for everyone's respect & admiration for India," he was quoted as saying.

As for its ties between both nations, Putin called India a close ally of many decades, adding that there had never been any difficult issues and both nations support each other. Putin hoped that the bonhomie will happen in future as well.

Russia has increased supply of fertilisers to India by 7.6 times after Modi's request and he also added that trade in agriculture between the nations almost doubled

He came down heavily on the West for playing what he said "dirty games" to achieve global dominance. Putin hoped that new centres of power will emerge soon creating a multipolar world.
