Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala on Wednesday recorded 1212 new cases of Covid 19 while 880 people were declared recovered.

1068 people were locally infected during the last 24 hours as five deaths were reported due to the infection.

Source of infection of 45 people, who are among those who contracted the disease on Wednesday, is unknown.

Out of the infectees, 51 were returnees from foreign countries while 64 people were from other states in the country.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that 22 health workers also contracted the disease on Wednesday.

More relaxations were brought in lockdown norms imposed in the coastal region of Thiruvananthapuram district as a gradual decrease in the number of cases was found.

Aluva, one of the prominent clusters in Ernakulam district, also is relieving in terms of new cases. However, west-Kochi is yet to be free from the clutches of the pandemic.

Novel initiatives are being designed under the district police chiefs to fight the pandemic. The measures will be implemented after needed modifications and clarifications through deliberation, Chief Minister said.
