Facebook in April took action against over 27 million pieces of content in India for guidance violation. These were actions taken on its own accord when content was found to be in violation of its community guidelines across 13 policies. The top three categories were spam content (21.7 million), violating policy around adult nudity and sexual activity (1.6 million), and violent and graphic content (1.4 million).

The company's latest report said that the social media giant "actioned on" less than one-fourth of the grievances of users. In the case of Instagram, less than one-third of complaints were dealt with. Instagram received 9,676 grievances from users, out of which it acted on 5,255 incidents.

Many of these complaints were claiming that the content is showing them in partial nudity or in a sexual act.

According to the report, 17% of the complaints were over "bullying or harassment" and around 18% were about "inappropriate or abusive content" and over 23% were about fake profiles. The social media giant got 8,470 grievances from users and provided tools to solve 2,225 cases. "Of the other 6,245 reports where the specialized review was needed, we reviewed content as per our policies, and we took action on 1,244 reports in total."

Instagram provided tools to only 11% of the users who raised complaints. "Of the other 6,085 reports where the specialized review was needed, we reviewed content as per our policies, and we took action on 1,664 reports in total." Instagram on its own acted against over 5.46 million content.
