America against global justice
text_fieldsIn Germany and Italy, fascism came to power as a legitimate for of government through democracy. In South Africa, apartheid was institutionalized through democracy. In recent times, communal and ethnic forces in many countries have been gaining legitimacy through the democratic process. Today, the rise of anti-people authoritarianism in America also bears the hallmark of democracy. The right-wing forces that are gaining a foothold in America are celebrating Donald Trump's second term as their decisive entry into power. Trump's department heads are a group of the super-rich. Elon Musk, who openly disdains the will of the people, is his right hand. Musk described Trump's second term as the 'return of the king'. Observers point out that American 'democracy' is changing to a state with a king of kings and the subjects. Not only the people but also the systems of government and the rule of law are not a concern for this king and his palace advisors. Trump’s second term in office started with pardoning his own people who staged an undemocratic riot in the Capitol after he lost the previous election. In his first week, Trump issued orders on many important issues, such as immigration policy and citizenship. He began to dismantle social justice systems. There is a move to eliminate things like the education department. Labour laws have been changed. The frenzied question of where America is heading is starting to be heard in many places.
In recent days, Trump's crazy ideas, which cannot be dismissed as merely America's domestic problem, have also endangered global institutions and systems. He is in a hurry to convince people that he is not only the king of America but also the emperor of the world. The descendants of white settlers who seized land and power by uprooting indigenous peoples centuries ago are now out to destroy immigrants and refugees. In the fever of imperialism, he said that he would seize Canada, Panama, Greenland, and Gaza. A new global trade war is brewing. Withdrawing from the Paris Agreement, which the world's nations negotiated and reached through a consensus over the years, America is turnings its back to the climate crisis. This puts the 'superpower' which creates the most pollution, incites and arms the most wars, on the very opposite side of the earth. As deadly diseases spread globally, he is putting his own country and other countries at risk by withdrawing from the World Health Organization. Now, he is challenging international law by announcing sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC). Although a few countries, including the United States, Russia, Israel, China, and India, have not signed the Rome Statute, which is the basis of the ICC, it is the resort and hope of those seeking global justice.
This is a guarantee against genocide and war crimes in at least 125 countries that recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC. After lengthy investigations and examinations by international lawyers, when it was found that Israel had committed war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza, the court issued arrest warrants for Israeli leaders based on the decisions of judges in three countries. The words and actions of Israeli leaders were listened to by the whole world, yet Biden and Trump in the United States gave them a free hand. Trump is now implementing Biden's threat. He is imposing visa bans and economic sanctions on everyone associated with the ICC. Many international agencies and legal experts unanimously say that Israel is guilty. At least two official US agencies have reported that Israel is not allowing food and other supplies to reach Gaza. But the attitude of the US and its allies such as Italy, Poland, and France who are ICC members is fundamentally racist. Their stance against the ICC is a declaration of war on the world and the global rule of law. The crucial question has been raised before the world as to whether the entire world can be allowed to sway to the interests of a few countries that flaunt their muscles. The question of whether justice and law are needed or whether the rule of power is sufficient.
