Hyderabad:  Workers of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) would have to take it into their strides that the party would become the biggest opposition party in Telangana Assembly.

Thanks to 13 Congress MLAs defecting to the ruling TRS causing a merger, allowing AIMM with 7 members for the status.

With this Congress will lose its status as the major opposition party and its leader Mall Bhatti Vikramarka, the ‘Leader of Opposition’

Congress won 19 seats in the last November’s assembly polls; however, many of them defected to TRS.

When two third members of a party defect to another, as per rules, it could be formally merged without attracting the provision of anti-defection law.

MLAs who have crossed over to TRS applied assembly speaker to recognize them as a separate group in order to merge with the TRS.
