UAE Floating Hospital begins critical surgeries in Gaza

Dubai: The UAE Floating Hospital, stationed at the Port of Al-Arish, initiated its operations by delivering crucial medical aid to the Palestinians. In line with the directives of the UAE President HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, this initiative forms a pivotal part of the 'Gallant Knight 3' humanitarian operation, aiming to extend comprehensive support to the people of the Gaza Strip.

Patients hailing from Gaza and afflicted with various injuries were promptly attended to, marking the commencement of the vital healthcare endeavour. A 20-year-old Palestinian underwent the first surgery to address gunshot wounds and shrapnel injuries. The swift surgical intervention aimed to rectify a dislocated and fractured shoulder, alongside nerve damage rendering his hand immobile. Further surgeries are planned to address the nerve damage.

The Floating Hospital established in collaboration with the Department of Health - Abu Dhabi and AD Ports Group, boasts a medical and administrative team comprising 100 professionals from diverse specialties including anesthesia, general surgery, orthopedics and emergency medicine, complemented by nurses and support staff.

Equipped with 100 beds, operating theatres, intensive care units, radiology, laboratory facilities, pharmacies and medical cabinets, the hospital stands ready to deliver comprehensive medical care adhering to the highest international standards and protocols.

All patients undergo comprehensive evaluation upon admission, including examinations and tests, enabling tailored treatment plans ranging from surgical interventions to specialized medical programs.

After docking at the Port of Al-Arish, the hospital promptly commenced receiving and treating wounded and sick Palestinians, providing necessary care, treatments and medications. The hospital equipped with a helipad and marine boat, ensures swift response to emergency cases requiring immediate medical attention.

The Floating Hospital, built upon the success of the UAE integrated field hospital in Gaza, expands essential medical services to the region. The existing field hospital was inaugurated in December 2023 and has since provided critical medical care in Gaza.
