New Delhi: Congress party sharply came down on US President Donald Trump over his “taking over” of the Gaza Strip on Wednesday. Congress General Secretary in-charge communications, Jairam Ramesh, called Trump’s statement “bizarre” and unacceptable, Asian News International reported.
"President Trump's loud thinking on the future of Gaza is bizarre, dangerous, and totally unacceptable. A two-state solution that fulfils the completely legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people to lead a life in independence and dignity, and also ensures security for Israel, is the ONLY basis for sustainable peace in West Asia," the Congress leader and MP wrote on X.
"The Modi Govt. must make its position absolutely clear. Other Govts have done so already," he wrote.
Reactions erupted after Trump announced that the US would “take over” the Gaza Strip and dismantle dangerous weapons. He claimed that it would get rid of the destroyed buildings and work for economic development in the region. However, Hamas called the statement “ridiculous and absurd and said that the militant group sees the statement as a recipe for generating chaos and tension in the region.
Senior Hamas official Sami Abu Zuhri said that Trump’s remarks about his desire to control Gaza are ridiculous and absurd, and such ideas are capable of igniting the region. He added that the Gazan people will not allow such an idea to pass.
Hamas spokesman Abdel Latif al-Qanou said that the US’s racist stance aligns with the Israeli extreme right's position in displacing Gazans and eliminating their cause.
Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) said that it rejects all calls for the displacement of Palestinians from their homeland, Al Jazeera reported.
"The Palestinian leadership affirms its firm position that the two-state solution, in accordance with international legitimacy and international law, is the guarantee of security, stability and peace, "PLO Secretary-General Hussein al-Sheikh wrote on X.
