In addition to giving Homeopathy medicines to non-infected people as an immunity booster, it can now be given also to the Covid19 positive patients as an add-on treatment, says the Supreme Court.

The court said that in a scenario where even modern medicine does not claim to cure the disease, Homeopathy medicines can be prescribed for patients as long as the practitioners do not claim it as a cure for the disease.

The bench comprising Justices Ashok Bhushan, RS Reddy and M R Shah modified the Kerala High Court's Verdict against AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) doctors.

Kerala High Court on August 21st had passed an order prohibiting AYUSH doctors from prescribing medicines to Covid19 patients and gave the State authorities the power to take action against any errant practitioner.

The bench pointed out the advisory of AYUSH ministry which clearly states that along with conventional care, Homeopathic medicines can be given as a preventive measure to the patients exhibiting symptoms for Covid19 like illness.

However, the bench agreed with the High Court in prohibiting any advertisement of these medicines as a cure for the disease.

Professionally qualified doctors from recognised institutions must be permitted to prescribe Homeopathy medicines to patients for prevention and mitigation of the virus, said the Supreme Court. The bench also stated that the verdict by Kerala High Court took a restricted view of the guidelines presented by the AYUSH ministry and hence cannot be approved.
