Wayanad: A 27-year-old man was killed in a suspected wild elephant attack in Kerala’s Wayanad district, police said on Wednesday.

The incident occurred in a tribal settlement in Attamala, under the Meppadi police station limits. The victim, identified as Balakrishnan, was a member of the tribal community. According to police, the attack is believed to have taken place on Tuesday night, and his body was discovered on Wednesday.

Officials from the police and forest departments have reached the area to assess the situation.

This tragic incident comes just a day after another fatal elephant attack in the district. On Monday, a 45-year-old man was killed in a forest-fringe area of Noolpuzha village near the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.

Following the previous attack, local residents staged protests on Tuesday, voicing their fear and frustration over the rising number of wild animal attacks, particularly by elephants. Protesters alleged that they were unable to step out of their homes due to the persistent threat posed by wildlife.
