Thiruvananthapuram:  Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan himself had given KSEB go-ahead to the move to revive the Athirapally Hydroelectric project, it revealed.

CM on April 18 signed the file to grant no objection notice for KSEB to approach the Central Electricity Authority to revive the project’s expired clearance.

The permission was given to KSEB via Department of Power without first discussing the matter neither in cabinet nor in LDF.

With this revelation, CPI toughened its stand and the party’s state secretary Kanam Rajendran said the project was neither in election manifesto nor in LDF’s agenda.

Electricity Minister MM Mani said the project was not possible without consensus. Congress also earlier opposed the project.

CPI leadership believes that CPM is in for a calculated move and cites reasons including the 7 years NOC given.

However, Minister MM Mani said there’s nothing unusual in reviving the expired clearance and also in the Chief Minister’s signing it.

CPI maintains that the move with the knowledge of the Chief Minister should be blocked right from the beginning.
