Kochi: Price of packaged milk by Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (MILMA) rose up by Rs 4 per litre from Thursday. Milma holds more than 50 percent of the milk market in Kerala.

It was in 2017 March that the federation, controlled by the state government, increased the milk price. Generally, other players in packaged milk sector and farmers who sell milk directly to consumers increase the milk price in tandem with the changes that Milma carry out.

Milma chairman PA Balan Master had said that the price hike was owing to the increase in price of raw materials for cattle feed.

Of the Rs 4 price increase, farmers will have Rs. 3.35. Agent commission will increase by 32 paisa, which is double the commission they had been getting. Milk societies will get 16 paisa from the increased price, 3 paisa will go to farmers' welfare fund and 1 paisa to the schemes.

Milma sells around 12 to 12.5 lakh litres of packaged milk in various categories on a daily basis.
