Fight relentlessly to reinstate student politics in colleges, schools: Congress

Kochi: Senior Congress leaders Tuesday urged activists of Kerala Students Union (KSU), the student wing of Congress in the state, to fight relentlessly to reinstate student politics in colleges and schools.

Speaking at a function organised here to mark the 60th year of formation of KSU, senior Congress leader A K Antony hit out at the private educational sector in Kerala, saying reinstatement of campus politics was necessary to save the key sector dipped neck deep in corruption.

"The private educational sector --whether it is self financing, unaided or aided--they lack accountability. They dont have accountability to the government or students."

"Organising students under an organisation in such institutions is the one and only way to find a solution to this problem", said Antony, who was also a former KSU president.

Leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala urged students to fight organisations which are trying to organise them on the basis of religion, in campuses.

"Communal outfits are trying to emerge as a major force in campuses. KSU should launch strong campaigns against such organisations," Chennithala said.

Former Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and other senior Congress leaders, including Vayalar Ravi and K Sankaranarayanan also attended the function.
