RSS worker’s killing: Key accused taken to custody

Kannur: Police have taken to custody two more persons allegedly involved in the murder of an RSS worker at Payyannur in the district last Friday.

With the arrest of key accused Raneesh and Vipin from Ramanthali area in the city Sunday night, the total number of those who were held by the police in the case has become five. As reports, the Raneesh is a supporter of the CPI-M.

On Sunday, the police had taken into custody the owner of a car used in ferrying the seven persons allegedly involved in the May 12 killing for questioning. The second man who hired the vehicle was arrested along with another person later the day.

The police had established the identities of the seven persons and a search was on to nab them.

The police had also recovered the car used by the assailants from a house at Ramanthali area in the city.

RSS worker Choorakad Biju was hacked to death allegedly by CPI-M activists at Payyanur town in Kannur district that has witnessed a series of clashes between the ruling CPI-M and the RSS for the past one year.

Biju was an accused in a case relating to the killing of CPI-M activist C V Dhanraj in 2016.
