Prez to visit Kochi-Muziris Biennale Thursday

Kochi: President Pranab Mukherjee will visit the ongoing third edition of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale here Thursday for a first-hand experience of the contemporary art exhibition in the country.

The President will also inaugurate a seminar on 'Importance of Sustainable Culture Building' at Cabral Yard on the occasion.

During his maiden presidential visit to the Biennale, Mukherjee will tour the Aspinwall House venues of the art event in Fort Kochi.

In view of security concerns, both Aspinwall House and Cabral Yard will be closed for the day, but other Biennale venues will remain open and there will be free entry on that day, a KMB release said.

Governor P Sathasivam and Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will address the gathering, while Minister for Tourism Kadakampally Surendran will deliver the welcome address at the function.

Kochi Corporation Mayor Soumini Jain, MP Prof K V Thomas, MLA K J Maxi and Kerala Tourism Principal Secretary Venu V will be present during the programme.

Renowned poet Ashok Vajpeyi, Biennale co-founder and artist Riyas Komu besides acclaimed Malayalam poet K Satchidanandan will be the panelists at the seminar to be moderated by Prof M V Narayanan.
