Thrissur: Days after reopening following the death of engineering student Jishnu Pranoy last month, the management of the Nehru College of Pharmacy, Pampady, said on Friday that the institution would be shut again.

The management informed the students that the college will remain shut until an environment to run the institute smoothly prevails. The authorities claimed that under the current scenario on the campus, the teachers, especially female teaching staff, were not feeling safe enough to hold classes.

The Pharmacy College, functioning on the same campus of the Nehru College of Engineering & Research Centre, Pampady, was reopened on Wednesday.

In the wake of fresh agitation by students on Thursday, the management of the Pharmacy College had said the institution would not take any action against the students who led the protests following the death of engineering student Jishnu Pranoy last month.

Disciplinary action will not be taken against students who did not attend the classes today (Thursday). Student representatives will be give an opportunity to air their views at the executive meeting tomorrow, principal B Sreedharan had said in a statement.

The management on Friday added that some forces from outside were still creating issues in the college.
