Kannur: A BJP worker was hacked to death by a group of assailants near a petrol pump at Pinarayi town in the district on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Ramith. He suffered a fatal cut on his neck and succumbed to the injuries on his way to the hospital.

Ramith’s father was also hacked to death in a similar incident earlier.

This incident comes in the wake of the killing of 52-year-old CPI-M grassroot leader K. Mohanan, who was hacked to death by suspected RSS activists on Monday.

Both of these murders took place in the assembly constituency of Dharmadom represented by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.

Meanwhile, the BJP has called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the state in protest against the murder of its activist in Kannur.
