Nilambur Maoist hunt aimed at getting Central fund, alleges Kanam

Thiruvananthapuram: CPI state secretary Kanam Rajendran Sunday has alleged that the latest Maoist hunt in the Nilambur forests is aimed at getting the Central fund.

“An IPS lobby in the state is trying to grab the Central fund allotted for anti-terror activities. It seems an attempt to prove that the Maoists exist in the state,” said Kanam.

On Friday, Kanam had condemned the gunning down of two Maoists in Nilambur forests, saying Kerala need not replicate the Maoist hunt as taken up by some other states.

"The state government should examine whether there is something wrong in somebody raising his voice for the welfare of tribal and the scheduled caste people. Nobody has the right to gun down those expressing their opinion. If anybody try to silence such people, it is not suited for a civilized society," he said.

Rajendran said rulers with vested interests were trying to gag those advocating the upliftment of the backward and exploited communities.

"It is not good for a democratic society," he said.
