Thiruvananthapuram: CPI-M Politburo member and the state’s Chief Minister-designate Pinarayi Vijayan called on veteran leader V S Achuthanandan at his official residence here on Saturday.

Vijayan, who reached Cantonment House with the party's state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan around 9 am, held a closed-door meeting with Achuthanandan for around 30 minutes.

Talking to the media after the meeting, Vijayan said he met the veteran leader to seek his advice. “Achuthanandan is the last party leader who held the post of Chief Minister and has the experience. I am a starter. I have so many things to learn from him. That will help the functioning of the government,” he said.

The new CPI-M-led LDF Ministry, headed by Vijayan, will be sworn in on May 25 and the function will be held in the evening at the Central stadium here.

The LDF would meet Sunday to discuss matters related to ministry formation, Vijayan said when asked about the nature of the new Ministry.

CPI-M Friday elected Vijayan as the new leader of the LDF at its state secretariat and state committee meeting. LDF romped to power with 92 seats pushing the Congress led UDF to 47 in the 140-member Assembly and BJP bagging a single seat.
