Alappuzha: A case has been filed against CPI-M leader and former minister G. Sudhakaran for peeping into the voting compartment when party veteran V.S. Achuthanandan voted.

Punnapra police filed the case following direction from the Superintendent of Police. The Alappuzha district collector had earlier asked the SP to take action against the Marxist leader for allegedly violating the basic election rules.

Sudhakaran is the CPI-M legislator from Ambalapuzha constituency. Pitted against him in the assembly elections of Monday was Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Sheikh P. Harris of the Congress-led UDF.

The Congress district committee had registered a complaint with the Election Commission alleging that Sudhakaran violated election rules by peeping into the compartment not once but twice when Achuthanandan and his wife voted on Monday.

Sudhakaran said he had done no wrong, and demanded to know why the police allowed journalists into the voting centre. He said he was ready to face the legal issues.
