BJP urges strongest measures for fair polls in Kerala

New Delhi: The BJP on Tuesday alleged that law and order situation in the poll-bound Kerala is detriorating constantly and urged the Election Commission to take "strongest measures" for ensuing free and fair polls.

A BJP delegation led by union minister and party election incharge of Kerala, J. P. Nadda will soon meet Election Commission officials in this regard, the party said.

"We do not expect free and fair polls in Kerala. We will appeal to the Election Commission to take strongest measures for ensuring free and fair polls in Kerala," union minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy told reporters here.

His ministerial colleague Smriti Irani, also present at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) briefing at party headquarters, said the state is witnessing "constant deteriorating" situation on law and order front.

Citing instances of violence in the state especially against their workers, Rudy alleged there is a "match fixing" between Congress-led United Democratic Front regime and Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPI-M)-led Left Democratic Front in the state.

"This violence in Kerala against BJP supporters and workers are not being carried out alone by CPI-M workers. It's being done jointly by Congress and the CPI-M," he alleged, adding most of the violence are perpetrated against BJP sympathisers in areas where its clout is growing.

"BJP is surging ahead in Kerala and our local alliance there has created a sense of insecurity among Congress and CPI-M," he claimed.

He said, "As we don't expect a fair and free election, we are going to meet election commission."

Irani claimed that violence is not only limited to male activists, even female activists are being targeted. She also cited some examples of violence against women workers of BJP.

She also alleged that whenever there is a attack on BJP workers, the Congress remained mere as spectators.

"Whenever BJP became powerful in the state of Kerala, the attacks on party cadres increased by the left parties and the Congress remained as spectator and supported it," she said.

"We condemn this and demand Election Commission to take cognigance of the matter," she said.
