Bangalore: Three senior students of a nursing college, who were arrested in connection with the alleged ragging of Aswathi, a first year Dalit girl student from Edeppal, have been remanded in 14-day judicial custody.

Kollam-native Lakshmi and Idukki resident Athira were sent to Gulbarga Central Jail ny a local court here on Saturday. Third accused Vishnupriya was shifted to a government hospital here following stomachache.

The three accused were arrested by Karnataka police on Friday based on the statement of Aswathi’s roommate, Sahi Nihita from Chamravattam.

The police have intensified search operations to nab the fourth accused, Shilpa.

The Karnataka police team probing the incident visited the victim and recorded her statement at Kozhikode Medical College, where she was admitted on June 2.

Nineteen-year-old Aswathi was allegedly force-fed toilet cleaner by her seniors at the hostel of Al Qamal College of Nursing in Kalaburigi on May 9, seriously damaging her internal organs.

Based on her statement, police in Kozhikode had registered an FIR on June 22 against five of her seniors.

Kerala Women's Commission had written to its counterpart in Karnataka, urging it to intervene in the matter.
