Kozhikode: The Thalassery Vigilance court Thursday ordered a probe against Sunni scholar Kanthapuram AP Abubacker Musliyar in connection with the land transaction in Anjarakandy in Kannur.

The court, while considering a plea filed by A.K. Shaji seeking to include Kanthapuram Musliyar in the list of respondents in the land deal case, also said the probe should be conducted by an officer in the rank of DySP.

Earlier, Vigilance Additional Legal Advisor Advt. Shailajan had told the court that Kanthapuram was not included in the list as there was no prima facie evidence against him.

According to the petitioner, the estate land was bought by Kanthapuram in 2000, which contained Karuppa trees and an archaeologically-significant building believed to have been used by Herman Gundert.

The registrar, village officer and panchayat secretary had not complied with rules while registering the deal as surplus land, which has historic significance, he said in the plea.
