Thiruvananthapuram: Opposition leader V.S Achuthanandan Tuesday said it was unfortunate the stand taken by the state government’s counsel in the ice cream parlour case.

“My fight was for the destitute girls. It was unfortunate the stand taken by the government’s counsel in the case,” VS told reporters.

On Monday, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea by Achuthanandan seeking CBI probe against IUML leader and former Industries Minister P.K. Kunhalikutty in the 1997 ice cream parlour sex racket case.

In the hearing before the Bench, the State government, represented by senior advocate K.K. Venugopal, objected to Achuthanandan’s plea and said the case had already seen five rounds of litigation since 1997.

Venugopal submitted that a closure report had been filed in the magistrate court which was being looked into by that court. The senior lawyer argued that Kunhalikutty was not accused in the first place and this petition was based solely on allegations made by the ex-Minister’s co-brother.
