Thiruvananthapuram: A day after opposition Congress and BJP demanded registering a case against CPI-M state Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan for allegedly exhorting violence, police today decided to examine the video clippings of his controversial speech.

Police would examine the video clippings of the speech made by the CPI-M leader and would decide whether to proceed further on the matter, police sources said here.

Balakrishnan had courted controversy over his reported remark that party cadres should not remain mere spectators to attacks by political rivals.

He had allegedly made the statement on July 24 while addressing a meeting against RSS attacks on CPI-M workers at Payyannur in politically sensitive Kannur district.

He was referring to the murder of party leader Dhanaraj allegedly by BJP workers on July 11.

KPCC had given a letter to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, demanding registration of a case against Balakrishnan while a BJP delegation lodged a complaint with state DGP Loknath Behra against Balakrishnan for his inflammable speech.
