Kozhikode: Kerala State Beverages Corporation Ltd (BEVCO) has suffered a loss of Rs 144 core due to the demonetisation policy of the Central government.

While talking to the media here on Saturday, Excise minister T P Ramakrishnan said that the BEVCO suffered a loss of Rs 80 crore in the tax category alone.

He said the harm was similar to the loss suffered by the other departments and the society alike after the demonetisation.

Ramakrishnan added the income-loss in the BEVCO would affect the tax revenue of the State government.

Of the security concerns of the employees in the Excise department, the minister said the government would consider giving more weapons to the staff for self-protection.
