Kollam: After the success of the chappatti sales project, the district jail in Kollam is diversifying into more products. On Friday, it launched a chicken biriyani project.
The new project was launched by the Director General of Police (Prisons) Rishiraj Singh at a function presided over by the Deputy Inspector General (Prisons) P. Pradeep.
Interestingly, each biriyani packet weighing 500 grams will be sold for Rs.60.
Sources said the sale of chapati and chicken curry was bringing an average revenue of Rs.25, 000 per day and was a profitable venture. Affordable price and home-made taste are the major attractions of the dishes.
These projects are being implemented as part of a livelihood means programme to reform the prisoners.
