Kollam: District Collector A. Shainamol has submitted her report on the Puttingal temple tragedy to the state government, stating that the mishap was occurred due to the negligence of the police.

According to sources, she in her report has said the police failed to implement the district administration’s order banning the fireworks display at the temple.

Earlier, Shainamol had told the media that the district police had initially submitted a report saying permission cannot be given for the fireworks show.

"But on April 9, police changed their position. An explanation will be asked on this change of stand," she told reporters at Kollam.

She had said it was childish the Police Commissioner’s claim that the temple authorities had misled them.

“In case of a magisterial order, it is not the duty of the judge to go and implement it, but it’s the duty of the concerned police officers to assure that the order is executed,” said Shainamol.
