Kochi: Justice P. Chithambaresh has submitted a letter to the high court registrar seeking a ban on fireworks display at temples in the state.

The High Court, which accepted his request as a PIL plea, will hold a special session tomorrow to consider the matter.

Meanwhile, the Travancore Devaswom Board has said on Monday it is not for a complete ban on such displays.

Prayar Goapalakrishnan, president of TDB, has said the board is against banning pyrotechnics during temple festivals as they are part of rituals.

“But it should be as per the restrictions of government and court orders with sufficient safety measures”, he said.

“In many temples, bursting firecrackers is a part of rituals and we cannot ban it,” he said.
