Woman questions Muslim conductor, insists on removal of his skull cap in viral video

Bengaluru: A Muslim conductor on a Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) bus was questioned for his skullcap by a woman passenger, whose video went viral on social media, drawing the attention of the Bengaluru police while social media called out the incident as a mere show of bigotry.

The video, lasting approximately one-and-a-half minutes, depicts an unidentified woman questioning the conductor about his choice to wear a skullcap while in uniform. The conductor calmly responds that he has been wearing it for several years without any objections raised. However, the woman persists, suggesting that religious attire should not be worn while in a professional role.

As the exchange continues, the woman asserts that religious practices should be confined to private spaces, urging the conductor to remove his green skullcap. In response, the conductor suggests that if there is an issue, it should be brought to the attention of the authorities, as no objections have been raised previously.

Ultimately, the conductor removes his skullcap, complying with the woman's demand.

Since the video gained widespread attention on social media platforms, the woman behind the camera has faced criticism for singling out the conductor based on his religious background, as he belongs to the Muslim community.

Twitter users have questioned whether she would similarly object to individuals wearing bindis or turbans. Some have also highlighted controversial incidents, such as the Ayudha Pooja celebrations at a police station, where police personnel were seen wearing saffron scarves.

The backlash against the woman has led to a demand for action to be taken against her, while a portion of social media users has expressed support for her stance. Meanwhile, the Bengaluru City Police responded to a viral tweet regarding the incident, signalling their awareness and commitment to investigating the matter further.
