New Delhi: Following his victory at the Mustafabad in the Delhi Assembly elections, BJP candidate Mohan Singh Bisht said that he will rename the constituency to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar. He reminded that he had promised the voters there that if he won, he would change the constituency’s name, Mint reported.

The BJP leader claimed that people are worried about the name Mustafa, and since Hindus are living in the area, it should be renamed to Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar.

"Why can't the area where Hindus are living be named Shiv Puri or Shiv Vihar instead of Mustafabad," Mint quoted the winning candidate.

The Delhi Assembly poll results 2025 are going to bring the saffron party to rule the nation's capital after 27 years. This is after voters snubbed the powerful AAP and national party Congress. It has turned out that Congress secured fewer votes than NOTA.

BJP candidate Mohan Singh won the Mustafabad constituency even though it is said to be a Muslim-majority constituency, with 30 to 40 per cent of the population being Muslims. In the polls, the Aam Aadmi Party has won 8 out of 11 seats where Muslims dominate. Mohan Singh won the seat with a margin of 17,578 votes, while voter turnout was the highest in the polls with 69.01 per cent.

Mustafabad, located in North-East Delhi, was among the worst affected areas during the 2020 riots, reports Mint.

In the polls, BJP won 48 of 70 seats while AAP won 22. Congress made a zero for the straight third time.

When BJP’s vote share was 45.56 per cent, AAP’s was 43.57. The 2020 elections were a clean sweep for AAP, with 53.57 per cent and winning 62 seats. BJP, which had a 38.51 per cent vote share, could only win eight seats then.
