Tens of thousands of Muslims protest in Chennai demanding the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill

On behalf of the Federation of Tamil Nadu Islamic Organisations and Political Parties a massive protest against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill 2024.

Tens of thousands of people took part in the demonstration held today near the Rajaratnam Stadium in Egmore, Chennai. Maulana Faslur Rahim Mujaddedi, General Secretary of All India Muslim Personal Law Board, participated in the demonstration under the leadership of Federation President Maulana PA Khaja Moinudeen Bakavi.

Trichy Siva floor leader of DMK in the Rajya Sabha, K Selvaperuntagai, President of TN Congress Committee, Dr. Thol Thirumavalavan, President of the Viduthalai Siruthaikal Katchi. R Sachithanandam MP on behalf of the Marxist Party KA Subparayan MP on behalf of the Communist Party of India Moulana Hussain Madvoor Chief Imam of Grand Masjid, Calicut took part in the protest and addressed the gathering. Prof MH Jawahirullah, MLA and President of Tamilnadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam, A S Umer Farooq, General Secretary of SDPI, Moulvi Haneefa Manbaee State President of Jama’at-e-Islami, and other organizations addressed the gathering.

Speakers in the program highlighted the following.

- This Bill takes away many rights granted to minorities by the Constitution

- Amendments introduced in this bill discriminate against Muslims.

- It was also pointed out that this amendment bill paves the way for encroachment of Waqf properties by easing the harsh punishments for those encroaching on Waqf properties.

The leaders in one voice demanded the withdrawal of the Waqf Amendment Bill 2024, which contains unconstitutional and discriminatory provisions to paralyze Waqf Boards and encroach on Waqf properties.
