Student community organise BBC documentary screening at EFLU Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Amidst reports of screening of the BBC documentary, 'India: The Modi Question' across the country, activists in campuses being the main exhibitors, students at the English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad gathered on campus on January 26 for a screening of the documentary that has caused considerable stir all over.

About 70 students gathered at the VC lawn of EFLU at 5:00 pm and simultaneously watched the documentary on their personal devices like phones and laptops without any interruptions. The documentary has been much in the news more so because of the ban imposed by the Central Government on their public screening and the directive issued to platforms like YouTube and Twitter to take down the posts.

The EFLU programme was followed by the discussion by the viewers which went on till 8:00 pm.

The students claim they discussed the documentary and broader issues of censorship, freedom of expression and attempts at suppression in university spaces.

EFLU students expressed their solidarity with students on campuses nationwide who were intimidated by authorities for holding screenings of the documentary. In general students were critical in their comments about the acts of persecution faced by the student community over the past few days.

The student community at EFLU also expressed their solidarity with all who were detained by the police for screening the documentary.
