Kannur: Russia wins in the 13th edition of the prestigious 'Admiral's Cup' sailing regatta, which concluded on December 13 at the Indian Naval Academy (INA), Ezhimala.The Russian team, led by Lt. Gorkunov Petr Ilyich and Cdt. Loshichinina Polina Vladislavovna, secured the top spot, with Italy finishing in second place and India taking third in the team event.

In the individual men’s category, Lt. Gorkunov Petr Ilyich of Russia claimed the first position, while Second Lieutenant Darius Lee Kheng Wee of Singapore and Ensign Pappas Vissarion HN from Greece finished second and third, respectively. In the women’s category, Ensign Camilla Bernabei from Italy clinched first place, followed by Cdt. Loshichinina Polina Vladislavovna from Russia and SLt. Isha Shah from India, who secured second and third positions, respectively.

The closing ceremony of the regatta was graced by Vice Admiral CR Praveen Nair NM, Commandant of the INA, who presented the coveted ‘Admiral’s Cup,’ along with the Runners-Up trophy and individual prizes to the winners.

The Admiral's Cup regatta saw intense competition with 53 participants, including 14 women sailors, from 25 countries, who raced in Laser Radial boats from December 9 to 13. The event, held under challenging weather conditions, was closely contested.

Apart from the sailing races, the foreign teams and accompanying officials engaged in a variety of activities during the five-day event. These included visits to the Indian Naval Academy's training and sporting facilities, a fitness trek to Mount Dilli, and a cultural package that showcased India’s rich traditions, languages, culture, dance, and art forms.

The regatta concluded with a grand finale, culminating in the closing ceremony on December 13.
