The police in Punjab are looking for the assailants who carried out the rocket-propelled grenade attack on a police station in Tarn Taran district came on Saturday.

Nobody was reportedly hurt when the rocket rebounded after hitting the outer pillar of police station in Sarhali on the Amritsar-Bathinda at around 1 am.

One lead-up the police are working on is the death of the notorious gangster Harvinder Singh alias Rinda reportedly in Pakistan a few days ago.

The attack is thought to be a reponse to the death of Rinda, perhaps to send home the message that his group is active.

Meanwhile, the US-based Legal Counsel of Khalistani Terror Group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) has claimed responsibility for the attack, India Today reported.

Police reportedly said that the attack came from across National Highway 54.

Authorities have not yet ruled out that it was a terror attack, as the station being the target of the attackers.

The rocket propelled grenade (RPG) did not explode but rebounded hitting the Sanjh Kendra, a multipurpose digital facility centre.

Window panes of the police station and Sanjh Kendra were damaged in the attack, besides the entrance.

The police said that Saturday's attack resembled the more damaging attack Punjab Police intelligence headquarters in Mohali in May this year.

The Mohali attack was masterminded by Canada-based gangster Lakhbir Singh Landa and Pakistan-based terrorist Harvinder Singh Rinda. The Mohali case is being investigated by NIA, according to India Today.

Meanwhile, Punjab DGP said that the police will investigate the claim of responsibility of the attack by US based Legal Cousel of Khalistani Terror Group Sikhs for Justice (SFJ).
