Republic Day parade 2025: army to showcase surveillance systems and "Pralay" missiles for the first time
text_fieldsThe Indian Army has unveiled exciting additions to the 76th Republic Day Parade, featuring battlefield surveillance systems and a DRDO tableau showcasing Pralay short-range ballistic missiles.
This announcement was made by Major General Sumit Mehta during a press briefing ahead of the grand event.
Major General Mehta highlighted two first-time features: the battlefield surveillance systems and the Defence Research and Development Organisation’s (DRDO) tableau dedicated to Pralay missiles. He added that this year marks the fourth time an Indonesian president will serve as the chief guest for the occasion.
The parade will also see 5,000 cultural artists performing along the ceremonial path, ensuring visibility for the entire audience. Unlike previous years, when performances were limited to the presidential box area, this change aims to provide an inclusive viewing experience for all attendees.
“The opening segment will deliver a powerful message, accompanied by drums and other instruments. Performers will march along the ceremonial path, creating a mesmerising display visible to everyone,” said Major General Mehta.
The festivities will conclude with the Beating Retreat Ceremony, scheduled for January 29 at 5:15 PM at Vijay Chowk. Bands from the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) will perform 29 tunes while marching in intricate formations.
This year’s DRDO tableau, themed Raksha Kavach - Multi-layer Protection against Multi-domain Threats, showcases cutting-edge advancements in national security.
Key features include the Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile, Airborne Early Warning & Control System, 155 mm/52 Cal Advanced Towed Artillery Gun System, Drone Detect, Deter & Destroy Systems, Medium Power Radar Arudhra, Laser-Based Directed Energy Weapon, Very Short Range Air Defence System, Indigenous Unmanned Aerial System, Secure Satellite Phone, and the UGRAM Assault Rifle.
The Republic Day Parade 2025 promises to be a vibrant showcase of India’s cultural diversity and military prowess, with special emphasis on the 75th anniversary of the Indian Constitution's enactment and Jan Bhagidari (public participation).
The event at Kartavya Path in New Delhi will celebrate India's achievements and aspirations, underlining the nation’s resilience and innovation.
