Bengaluru: BJP in Karnataka opposed the Siddaramaiah government there over its decision to acquire land and build homes for those affected by the victims of Wayanad landslides. BJP criticised the move, saying that the state administration is “squandering tax money” and that instead of rehabilitation in Wayanad, it could repair potholes-ridden Karnataka roads.

BJP alleged that instead of using the state's money to fund development there, it is squandering tax money on the neighbouring state, The Print reported.

Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly R Ashoka wrote on X that the state's Congress government is struggling to retain its seat due to corruption. It is using Kannadigas’ money to please the Congress's high-command leaders.

When the state government attempted to rehabilitate the landslide affected in Wayanad, it had no money to provide relief to farmers who were affected by crop damage in the state, Ashoka claimed. He said that the government also has no money to compensate families who lost expectant mothers due to contaminated drugs too.

The Congress government under Siddaramaiah is helping the landslide affected in Wayanad because the Lok Sabha constituency of Wayanad was represented by Rahul Gandhi and now his sister Priyanka Gandhi, who are top leaders of the party, Ashoka claimed.

Ashoka was reacting to Siddaramaiah’s letter to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, in which the former enquired why there was no response to his offer to build a hundred homes for the affected in the landslide.
