New Delhi: India has declared one-day state mourning as a mark of respect to the Queen Elizabeth II who has died aged 96 on Thursday.

National flags at Red Fort and Rashtrapati Bhavan are flown at half-mast, according to ANI news agency.

An official statement said that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, passed away on September 8, 2022.

It added that as a mark of respect to the departed dignitary, the government of India has decided that there will be one-day state mourning on September 11 throughout India."

UK is planning to bid farewell to Queen Elizabeth II with a procession of the coffin through Scotland followed by the new king's vigil and the state funeral on September 19.

Wide arrangements befitting to the deceased royal have been made ahead of the funeral procession.

The queens' coffin will be moved from the ballroom at her Balmoral estate to Edinburgh, traveling through villages and the cities on the way.

People waiting at the dedicated viewing points are asked not to hurl flowers at the convoys as it courses through streets.

On Monday, September 19, the queen's coffin will be taken in procession to Westminster Abbey for a state funeral at 11:00, AFP reported.

Millions around the world are expected to watch the historical event happening in the modern times.

State heads including US President Joe Biden are expected to attend the funeral service.

The queen will be interred privately at the King George VI memorial chapel, alongside her husband, Prince Philip.

Others previously interred here include her sister Princess Margaret, their mother, also called Elizabeth, and father George VI.
