New Delhi: Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told PM Modi in separate conversations that they see India as a peacemaker for the continuing war in Ukraine, NDTV reported citing sources.

Hours after interacting with Putin in the wake of his re-election, PM Modi engaged in talks with Zelenskyy.

Both leaders have reportedly invited PM Modi to their countries after Lok Sabha elections.

It is reported during his talk with Zelenskyy, PM Modi reiterated India’s stand that both countries should engage in dialogue and diplomacy rather than continuing the war.

The Prime Minister reportedly promised Ukraine that India would continue work for a peaceful solution for the conflict.

President Zelenskyy appreciated India's humanitarian help to the people of Ukraine.

For the first time since the war started in February last year, PM Modi and Zelenskyy met on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Japan in May last year.

PM Modi called up Russian President Vladmir Putin and congratulated him on his re-election. It is reported that both leaders decided to expand 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’ between two the countries.

‘Spoke with President Putin and congratulated him on his re-election as the President of the Russian Federation. We agreed to work together to further deepen and expand the India-Russia Special & Privileged Strategic Partnership in the years ahead,’ PM Modi reportedly said.

Putin won the Presidential elections with 87.17 per cent votes outshining the Communist Party of Russian Federation candidate Nikolai Kharitonov who collected 4.1 per cent of the votes.
