Mumbai woman falls on track, loses legs after local train runs over her

Mumbai: A woman lost her legs after being run over by a train at Mumbai's Belapur station today.

The woman, who was to travel to Thane, fell on the tracks after missing a step when she was trying to get into a crowded train.

The train was already in motion when one compartment ran over her.

After passengers and security personnel raised an alarm, the train began reversing.

Footage showed the woman sitting up with her feet bloodied just as policemen jump on the track to help her.

The accident is reported as Mumbai is experiencing train disruptions following heavy rains overnight.

It is reported in the morning that several trains have been cancelled after tracks were flooded.

Flooding in stations including Kurla and Chunabhatti has disrupted the movement of local trains.

Train cancellations and delays caused difficulty to people coming to work in Mumbai from the suburbs.

Huge crowds vainly waited at the Belapur station for hours for a train to Thane.

Eventually a train arrived, and people rushed to get in when the woman fell on the tracks.

Following heavy rains, schools and college remain shut and air carriers diverting flights headed to the city.

The India Meteorological Department has predicted a 4.40 m high tide in the sea this afternoon.

In response to it, the National Disaster Response Force have been deployed in several areas.
