Guwahati: Nine more people including three children died in the battering floods in the state taking the total deaths to 71 as of Monday, reports say.

Massive landslides killed at least three on Sunday in Cachar district compounding the worsening situation which saw six people die in the floods alone yesterday.

More than 42 lakh people across 32 districts of Assam are facing the hardships of flood and devastation.

Plunged already in crisis, reports of deaths—two from Cachar district, one each from Bajali, Kamrup, Karimganji and Udalguri—pushed the state further down in grief and shock yesterday.

Four went missing from Dibrugarh, while searches are underway for one each missing from Cachar, Hojai, Tamulpur and Udalguri districts.

The total number of people losing to furious floods and lands slips crossed 70 yesterday.

After skies poured down for hours on end, sinking several of the low lying villages numbering about 5,137 alongside washing away roads, slipping knolls and hills, thus inundating motorways across the state.

Barpeta according to The Indian Express is the worst-hit with over 5,137 people facing hardships, followed by Darrang with nearly 3.94 lakhs being exposed to calamitous rains.

More than 3.64 lakhs are suffering in the Nagaon district, according to the report.

The districts that are facing the worst floods in years include Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Cachar, Chirang, Darrang, Dhemaji, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Dima-Hasao, Goalpara, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Jorhat, Kamrup, Kamrup (M), Karbi Anglong West, Karimganj, Kokrajhar, Lakhimpur, Majuli, Morigaon, Nagaon, Nalbari, Sivasagar, Sonitpur, South Salmara, Tamulpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri.

News agency ANI quoted Udayaditya Gogoi, ACS-District Development Commissioner as saying that some villages along the Brahmaputra River submerged, affecting 2.41 lakhs flooding the crop area of 5,174 hectares.

Authorities have set up 30 relief camps just as rescue operations are underway, according to the official.

Water level reportedly is increasing in Brahmaputra River foreboding more floods and worst situation ahead.

Indian Army went on with rescue operations for the 4 th day on Sunday in 7 districts.

Paramilitary forces, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force(SDRF), Emergency and Fire Services are pressed into service.

There is no end to the grievances of people whose lives suddenly went upside down in rains and floods.

A flood victim Rakib Ahmed from Kamrup's Rangia said houses are under water for the past three days, people are staying on the highway.

Ahmed complained that villagers did not get any relief materials from the government.

Alongside submerging107370.43 hectares of crop land, over 29,28 lakh domestic animals and poultry, according to the Indian Express, got affected in the floods.

Forecasting no end to the state's suffering, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted more rain in Assam and Meghalaya till Thursday.

In the next 48 hours, extremely heavy rainfall are likely in the state.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday talked with Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma assuring him of all help from the Centre.
