J&K land laws: Hurriyat Conference calls for strike on October 31st

All Parties Hurriyat Conference led by house-arrested chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, on Wednesday, strongly denounced the new land lands of Jammu and Kashmir and called for a shutdown on October 31.

In a press release, APHC said that these "incessant anti-people orders being issued by the Government of India at frequent intervals to intimidate and psychologically torture the people of J-K". Hurriyat also said that this "imperial" approach of the government is bound to fail.

Hurriyat called for a peaceful dialogue for resolving the "Kashmir dispute,". "We reiterate our principled stand of engagement and dialogue with all stakeholders of the Kashmir dispute. The Indian state rather than pursuing a peaceful resolution is undermining its possibility through such attempts." Hurriyat said in the press release

Hurriyat also said that policy is being pushed aggressively for a "demographic change," in the erstwhile state. "A policy of permanent demographic change is being aggressively pushed to steal our land, destroy our identity, and turn us into a minority in our own homeland." read APHC's presser.

In the press release, the party called the new domicile laws "arbitrary" and said that the centre is exploiting the natural resources of the erstwhile state, Hurriyat also said that jobs allotted to non-locals are among many other policies that are being "thrust upon the people of J&K".

Hurriyat added that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are not "dumb-driven cattle who will yield to these laws." The party also raised concerns about the law the gives the army a right to call any area a "strategic area", Hurriyat called it alarming.

APHC demanded the immediate withdrawal of these laws and called for protests 31st October.

"People have proved by the strength of their unfailing will and their immense sacrifices, that they are not a dead, but alive and determined nation who will not stand such assaults upon them and their motherland. To register their strong resentment against these anti-J&K people laws, and demanding their immediate withdrawal, the people will peacefully observe a shutdown on Saturday, October 31st 2020." Hurriyat said in the press release.
