Ahead of the assembly polls in the state, Congress President Sonia Gandhi appointed Jagdish Thakor as the new president of the Gujarat Congress. Thakor replaced Amit Chavda.
"Congress president has appointed Shri Jagdish Thakor as the President, Gujarat Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect," the party informed.
AICC general secretary KC Venugopal further appreciated the contributions of outgoing president Amit Chavda in a statement. The move is timed well before the assembly elections in which the Congress hopes to take over the government of Gujarat from the BJP.
