India bans 63 porn sites adding to a list of 800 banned lewd sites

New Delhi: India on Thursday blocked access to as many as 63 pornographic sites in the nation, adding them to a list of previously banned obscene sites.
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued an order to internet providers to block these sites as per the new IT rules in 2021.
The ban will come in force forthwith making these sites inaccessible from all platforms including phones, laptops, and desktops.
The order said: "The Internet Service Providers (licensees) are accordingly directed to immediately block access to the above Websites/Urls as mentioned in the court order."
The new IT Rules 2021 bans content that "shows such individual in full or partial nudity or shows or depicts such individual in any sexual act or conduct", according to a report in India Today.
In 2018 India banned over 800 pornographic websites following an order by the Uttarakhand High Court.
