India registered 3,47,254 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, 29,722 new infections more than what was recorded yesterday, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare early on Friday morning. With the new Covid cases, the total tally has reached 3,85,66,02.

The active cases now comprise 5.23 per cent of the total infections, while the national COVID-19 recovery rate has decreased to 93.50 per cent. The daily positivity rate is up from 16.41% to 17.94% while the weekly positivity rate was recorded at 16.56 per cent.

The overall count of the highly infectious Omicron variant reached 9,692 today with 29 states reporting cases of the new strain.

The cumulative COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country have crossed the 160-crore mark. 94 per cent of India's adults have received the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, while 72 per cent are fully vaccinated, according to the government.

As many as 703 people have died of Covid during the past 24-hour period, according to the Health Ministry. The toll was high as Kerala added 309 deaths as part of its reconciliation process to include older Covid-19 fatalities. Thirteen states have reported more than 10 deaths.

The recovery of 2,51,777 patients in the last 24 hours has increased the cumulative tally to 3,60,58,806. Consequently, India's recovery rate stands at 93.50 per cent.

As many as 1,60,43,70,484 Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country since the inoculation drive began in the country on January 16 last year. Of these, 70,49,779 doses were administered on Thursday alone.
