Hemant Soren sworn-in as Jharkand CM

Ranchi: Jharkhand Mukti Morcha's (JMM) executive president Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of the state who was jailed recently but released a few days ago, was sworn in as chief minister of Jharkhand, the state Governor C P Radhakrishnan's invitation on Thursday to form a government. The Governor invited Hemant Soren after Champai Soren stepped down as CM on Wednesday. He was sworn in by the Governor on Thursday itself, as reported by news sources.

The announcements regarding th swearing-in was earlier made by JMM general secretary and spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya.

On Wednesday, Champai met the Governor to turn in his resignation following the 45 MLAs of the ruling coalition elected Hemant as their leader.

Hemant got out of jail after spending five months in jail, following the Jharkhand High Court granting him bail on June last in a case of money laundering. The court observed that there are reasons to believe that he was not guilty of the offence of money laundering over a plot of land in Ranchi.

Earlier, TIE reported that Champai was reluctant to step down from the CM's post, and he had stated that it would not look good as elections are due in the states in months.

Heman Soren addressed a rally last Sunday after being out on bail, and he said that elections in the states would be held earlier. He said that he was ready to face "them" any time. He said that considering the situation in the country, the Indian bloc decided to launch a revolution and vowed to uproot those feudal people from the state as well as the country. He was referring to the BJP, The Indian Express reported.
