Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday informed that the BJP parliamentary board will finalise the names of candidates for the upcoming Goa assembly polls on January 16.

"Parliamentary Board meeting is scheduled on January 16 in Delhi. I will be going to Delhi along with the state president on January 15. By January 16 evening the names will be declared," Sawant said.

The BJP's state unit is in the process of shortlisting prospective candidates, he added.

Goa assembly polls are scheduled to be held in a single phase on February 14. While the BJP is hopeful of winning 22 plus seats this year, the main opposition party Congress also has high hopes pinned on the state. New players such as the AAP and TMC are also hoping to make inroads into the state in the upcoming elections.
