Flag hoisting mandatory in all mosques, madrasas in Chhattisgarh on I-Day
text_fieldsRaipur: The Chhattisgarh State Waqf Board has directed all mosques, dargahs, and madrasas in the state to hoist the national flag on Independence Day, August 15.
Board chairman Dr. Salim Raj said a letter was issued on Monday to all mutawallis, those responsible for managing Waqf properties, emphasising that the tricolour is “a symbol of honour and pride” that is not linked to any religion. The letter stated that the 78th Independence Day should be marked by hoisting the national flag at the main gate of all mosques, madrasas, and dargahs in Chhattisgarh. It urged people to understand the significance of the day and uphold its dignity by fostering patriotism, unity, and brotherhood.
Raj noted that some mosques and madrasas do not hold flag-hoisting ceremonies and stressed that respect for the tricolour transcends religion. “There should be no objection to hoisting it. Therefore, an order had to be issued,” he said. The directive specifies that flag hoisting should be conducted in the presence of the Imam, mutawalli, or mosque committee members.
Taking a firm stance, Raj said, “Those who do not love the tricolour and the country do not have the right to live on the land of Bharat Mata. If anyone refuses, it will be clear who loves the country and who harbours fundamentalist thinking.”
