New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party national convenor and former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal wrote Union Home Minister Amit Shah saying that Delhi is becoming the “crime capital”, citing the recent bomb threats to numerous schools as well as the Indira Gandhi International Airport. He reminded Shah that the law and order in the capital are in the hands of the Union home ministry, which he handles, India Today reported.

Kejriwal said that the law and order situation in the national capital region is deteriorating and demanded a meeting with Shah to discuss the issue.

Kejriwal said that it is so shameful that under the Centre’s watch, Delhi is being called the rape capital, drug capital and gangster capital. He said that crimes against women are rising, extortion gangs are active everywhere, drug mafia is spreading across the city, and people are harassed by mobile phone and chain snatching incidents.

He wondered why the culprits were not arrested even after more than 600 schools, 100 plus hospitals, malls, and the airport had received bomb threats in the past six months.

Kejriwal said that due to these threads, children and their parents are living in total scare.

Kejriwal said that Delhi is number one among 19 metro cities in terms of crimes against women and murders. Since 2019, there has been a 350 per cent rise in drug-related crimes. An average of three women get raped every day, and businesspersons regularly receive extortion calls.

Kejriwal wanted Shah to act on the issue immediately and cooperate with the Delhi administration to rectify the situation, the letter suggested.
