As the counting of votes progresses in the Delhi Assembly Elections, the BJP has surged ahead, surpassing the majority mark and potentially ending the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)'s dominance in the capital.

Speaking on the initial trends, BJP’s Delhi unit president, Virendra Sachdeva, expressed confidence in the party’s performance, stating that the leads are in line with their expectations. “The results so far are as per our expectations, but we will wait for the final outcome,” he told reporters after offering prayers at Hanuman Temple in Connaught Place.

According to Election Commission data, early counting showed BJP leading in 32 assembly seats, while AAP was ahead in 14. However, as more votes were counted, the BJP’s lead extended to 46 seats, crossing the majority mark of 36. AAP was leading in 24 constituencies, while Congress secured a lead in just one seat.

When asked about the BJP’s chief ministerial candidate, Sachdeva remained non-committal, stating that the decision lies with the party’s central leadership.

He also credited the party’s campaign strategy for the strong performance, saying, "Our workers have put in tremendous effort. This victory will be a reflection of the leadership of our top leaders. We fought the election on the issues concerning Delhi, but Arvind Kejriwal attempted to divert attention away from them."

If the trends hold, the BJP could return to power in Delhi for the first time since 1998, marking a significant shift in the capital’s political landscape. AAP, which has ruled Delhi since 2015, now faces a tough challenge as the BJP gains ground.
